Run # 8 - 1 Street, A Little Break and a New Running Buddy

Image
A few days of rain turned into taking a few days off followed by a Covid blowing through the house. Followed by a new dog and running buddy. Greta is an Aussiedoodle and a new member of the family. Not to be forgotten was the Fairfield County/Westchester Pickleball finals. Redemption from last year's loss in the quarterinals... we won this year. Streets; Grove St

Run #7 - 3 Streets

Had to double back on this one to check on Talmadge Hill Rd. In the process I hit two more en route. Humid, with headlamp. Have logged 61.17 miles and 72 streets covered to date. Streets; Farm Rd, Harrison Av and Talmadge Hill Rd

Run #6 - 13 Streets and the Parade Hill Cemetery

Labor Day was a hot one! With the intention of heading north and doing around 6 to 7 miles I didn't think I'd check off as many streets but a few small dead ends popped up. The heat proved to be challenging in the end. Stumbling upon the Parade Hill cemetery was interesting. No entrance or signage, just some old weather worn grave stones bearing the names of Historic New Canaan families. Streets; Cherry St, Forest St, Hampton Ln, Hillside Av, Husted Ln, Locust Ave, Maple St, Oak St, Parade Hill Ln, Parade Hill Rd, Riverbank Ct, Rural Dr and Siwanoy Ln

Cemeteries of New Canaan, CT

A quick google search reveals 24 named cemeteries in the town of New Canaan. Yesterday, while on run #6, we stumbled across what looked to be a backyard filled with grave stones near the corner of Oenoke Ridge and Parade Hill. Turns out this small graveyard is the Parade Hill Cemetery and holds the remains of some well known historical New Canaan area residents. There was no sign or clear entrance and from afar the grave stones looked weather-worn and unreadable. There are 124 listed memorials at the Parade Hill Cemetery with family names you'd recognize when driving through New Canaan. Talmadge, Davenport and Lockwood to name a few. All named streets in town.

Run #5 - Back Up Jelliff Mill

Wanting to add some semblance of a long run into the schedule I ventured back out to the southwest corner to check off East Cross Rd which I missed a few days earlier. This meant a trip back up Jelliff Mill. Despite the hills I was hoping to push the pace but the stomach had other plans. Streets; Adams Ln, Davenport Ridge Rd, Driftway Ln, East Cross Rd, Hillcrest Rd, Sagamore Tr, Spring Water Ln and Thurton Dr.

Run #4 - A Lap Around the Track With My Faster Half

Run #4 started from a new location. 90 minutes of soccer practice for the kids is plenty of time for a jog. I goofed and will have to return Talmadge Hill Rd. The better and faster half joined me for a relatively faster run as we checked off 9 New Canaan streets, 1 Darien Street (was on the map and list) and capped it off covering the high school track. Streets; Charter Oak Dr, Charter Oak Ln, Conrad Rd, Danvers Ln, Dew Ln, Hollow Tree Ridge Rd, Lapham Rd, Surrey Rd, Whiffle Tree Ln and White Birch Rd .
